This week at Mass, I remember that Fr. O'Brien was speaking about the common principle that when we are seeking to make a change in our lives, we should consider what our "whys" are. He said that when considering our dedication to our practice of the Catholic Faith, there is in fact a deeper principle. Beyond analyzing our "whys," we, like Saul of Tarsus, should ask the Lord Jesus, "Who are you, sir?" In receiving His answer in prayer, our hearts will be transformed.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, as my physics and chemistry teacher always used to say (quoting some source I'm not certain of): well, to name one thing, it snowed Thursday morning. I don't remember much else about the weather as it was last week. I do remember (correctly?) that we had some sunny days, for which I am always grateful. To change topics slightly, it is currently snowing as I type this, and we are all at home from school.
Well, as it turns out, I'm writing this well after Feb. 18, so I'll give some other news instead. We're actually just finishing spring break at STM and will head back to school tomorrow (Mon., Mar. 21). The Scholastic Bowl team had a great season, garnering a Regional Champions plaque before bowing out in the Sectionals which included an impressively dominant Illinek squad from University High School.
Spring sports and activities are gearing up. The spring musical, Into the Woods, Jr., is next weekend (I believe, please look up the actual performance dates and times). The Fine Arts Department is also hosting the annual Fine Arts' Night late ron in the Spring. Some pieces from this class and also Fall's Graphic Design class will be featured.
Here are all of the Spring sports teams that are practicing and already competing (or starting competition very soon):
Because we had a few snow days, I am obliged to write a little further, but this time about whatever I'd like. To wit, I hear that the Players and Owners of Major League Baseball have come to an agreement that will allow the 2022 season to proceed. I haven't really dug into the details, but I heard of two aspects of the deal that are a stake through my heart, proverbially speaking.
First, they are widening the bases. This just seems silly. I heard they tried this experiment in one of the Independent Minor Leagues, and I rolled my eyes back when I heard about that. Now it is coming to Major League Baseball. I guess the idea is to make stealing bases an eyelash easier, thus boosting the offensive character of the game. Oh well.
The second and more grave change is the permanent institution of the Designated Hitter in the National League. As I've fulfilled the word count requirements and am in a hurry, you, reader, are spared my rant on this topic, but I leave you with a question: Is nothing sacred?
Requirements:
I am excited first of all for warmer weather and more sunshine... 60 words needed.
Well, Lent has arrived. All the Church joins together
